The Zone of Interest

Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss lives with wife Hedwig and their children in a comfortable house beside the camp wall. Gardening, swimming, domestic staffing, career discussion, and plans for expansion continue within constant unseen industrial violence.

Flowers, laundry, children's games, river outings, boots, ash, wall height, and Johnnie Burn's offscreen soundscape make complicity spatially pinpoint—static frames refuse the family the drama that their victims are denied.
