Read expanded premiseLonger, still spoiler-free+

Why it belongs
In Scarface, De Palma makes Tony Montana's appetite operatic through visual excess, split attention, Giorgio Moroder's pulse, and Pacino's volcanic physicality.

Mirrors, surveillance views, saturated nightclubs, monumental interiors, Giorgio Moroder's synth score, and escalating visual excess frame success as self-enclosure. Al Pacino makes Tony's ambition simultaneously charismatic, childish, and terrifyingly absolute.
