Spoiler-free premise

A Tokyo detective investigates seemingly unrelated murders whose perpetrators share a strange pattern.

Read expanded premiseLonger, still spoiler-free

Tokyo detective Kenichi Takabe investigates murders committed by different people who calmly confess but cannot explain their motive. Each victim bears an X-shaped wound, and the trail leads to an amnesiac wanderer named Mamiya whose questions destabilize everyone around him.

Why it belongs

Through empty rooms, distant sound, repeated questions, and Hagiwara's terrifyingly vacant Mamiya, Cure makes hypnosis feel environmental.

Read expanded why it belongsThe fuller editorial case

Water, flame, tape recordings, institutional corridors, wide static frames, offscreen city noise, and long conversational gaps let influence spread without visible spectacle. Kōji Yakusho's Takabe is slowly pulled from procedural control.
