Read expanded premiseLonger, still spoiler-free+

Why it belongs
Aleksandr Dovzhenko makes land, bodies, fruit, machinery, and death part of one lyrical revolutionary cycle whose images exceed its propaganda.
Read expanded why it belongsThe fuller editorial case+
Dovzhenko arranges sunflowers, apples, wheat, bare feet, faces, rain, livestock, machinery, and low horizons into a cosmic agricultural montage. Poetic sensuality complicates the film's direct collectivist argument.
