Spoiler-free premise
Tableaux inspired by the life and imagination of Armenian poet Sayat-Nova unfold through symbolic images, music, and ritual.
Read expanded premiseLonger, still spoiler-free+
A sequence of symbolic tableaux evokes the life and inner world of eighteenth-century Armenian poet and troubadour Sayat-Nova. Childhood, monastery, books, wool, fruit, love, court, death, and resurrection appear through ritual action rather than conventional biography.
Why it belongs
The Color of Pomegranates makes biography iconographic through frontal tableaux, pomegranates, textiles, manuscripts, bodies, and sound arranged like living illuminated pages.
Read expanded why it belongsThe fuller editorial case+
Wet books, red fruit, wool dye, church stone, lutes, veils, animals, and repeated hand gestures carry poetic meaning without narrative translation; each static composition makes cultural memory physically present.
