Read expanded premiseLonger, still spoiler-free+
Kidney failure brings Uncle Boonmee to a rural farm where relatives care for him. At dinner his deceased wife Huay appears, and missing son Boonsong returns as a red-eyed monkey spirit while past lives, caves, and jungle stories gather around death.
Why it belongs
Apichatpong Weerasethakul treats ghosts, animals, illness, television, and reincarnation as relaxed family presences, making mortality mysterious without solemnity.
Read expanded why it belongsThe fuller editorial case+
